English: Arms of Wrey impaling Smith of Totnes (same as Smith of Exeter). Arms of Bernard Smith (c.1522-1591) of Totnes, Devon, MP for Totnes in 1558 and mayor of Totnes 1549-50 and c.1565-6. As seen on Monument to John I Wrey (d.1597) in Tawstock Church, Devon. Wrey's son John II Wrey was the 3rd husband of Smith's daughter Eleanor Smith. The arms of Smith of Totnes, as shown in Tawstock Church impaled by Wrey: Barry undé of sixteen argent and azure, on a chief gules three barnacles or. In Pole, Sir William (d.1635), Collections Towards a Description of the County of Devon, London, 1791, p.502, Smith arms blazoned as: Barry undé of six argent and azure on a chief gules three barnacles or.
