Summary

Description
English: View from Castlehill, Edinburgh Looking from the very west of the Royal Mile. To the left is the Tartan Weaving Mill & Exhibition. Beyond is the Camera Obscura. To the right of that is Tolbooth Kirk, also known as St John's Highland Church, it has the highest steeple of all the churches in Edinburgh (73 metres, 240 feet). Located on the Lawnmarket, just down from the castle, this Gothic landmark was built in 1839/44 to house the General assembly of the Church of Scotland. After the congregation moved to Greyfriar's Kirk (where services are held in both Gaelic and English), the church lay empty for many years. It was eventually refurbished and used as the main ticket office and meeting place for the Edinburgh Festival.
