  • Commande annoncée par le Directeur des Musées nationaux au Conservateur du musée de Versailles dans une lettre du 25 avril 1894 : le tableau étant "destiné à remplacer au musée de Versailles l'original placé au Louvre".
  • Déposé à Versailles le 22 février 1895.
  • Sous-déposé dans les appartements des questeurs du Sénat à Versailles du 18 juillet 1930 au 15 mai 2007.
  • transféré à Paris en 2007.
