Summary
Description Touristic Khayamiya - Egyptian boatmen circa 1910-1925.jpg |
English:
Touristic Khayamiya - Egyptian boatmen circa 1910-1925. This is an example of the Egyptian tentmaker's use of cotton applique sewn to a canvas base, which were sold as decorative souvenirs across the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Figurative scenes based on ancient Egyptian visual culture were popular subjects, as were scenes inspired by aspects of Egyptian folklore that appealed to international tourists.
