Stoneware figure of a Daoist deity with green, turquoise, purple, and ochre glazes. Daoist deities were modeled on their Buddhist counterparts. It is distinguished from the Buddhist deities by its hat, throne, and beard (Buddhas were always shaven). From the People's Republic of China. Ming Dynasty, 16th century CE. On display at the British Museum in London.
