Bishop Matthew Blagden Hale, 1875
1811 - 1895. Anglican Bishop. In 1840 he married Sophia Clode by whom he had two surviving daughters, Amy and Mary. His wife's and mother's deaths in 1845 severely affected his health. 1847 he become Archdeacon and examining chaplain in South Australia. Installed in Brisbane unanimously by the Australian Bishops in 1875. He retired in March 1885 and returned to England. He died at Bristol on 3 April 1895, survived by his second wife Sabina (nee Dunlop), five sons and three daughters. (Description supplied with photograph.).
