English: This image shows the trace fossil Skolithos in a bed of the Dakota Formation near Grants, New Mexico. Skolithos takes the form of vertical burrows, seen here both along their lengths and in cross section (at the top of the bed at center). Several kinds of organisms produce such burrows, usually in high-energy shallow marine environments.
