Summary
Description Shiva Durga temple or simply, Durga temple of Bally Diwanganj of Goghat PS in Hooghly district of West Bengal (19).jpg |
Shiva Durga temple of Bally Dewanganj is sometimes simply referred to as Durga temple. This 19th century temple has a very curious structure. A Navaratna or nine pinnacled structure sits upon a Jor Bangla or the dual hut structure. The temple is unique from the structural point of view. In the facade of the temple above the three arches, there is the largest Durga panel in terracotta not only in West Bengal but also in India. The temple is situated in the Rautpara locality of Bally Diwanganj. There are 4 temples in this locality. The adjacent temple of this Durga temple is a Vishnu temple. Bally Diwanganj was once a flourishing trading centre. It is located about 13 kms from Arambagh and few buses with curious names like 'Khepi Ma' ply up and down through the extremely bumpy road. Tourist can either stay at Arambagh or Tarakeswar to visit this place. Tarakeswar is located approximately 45 kms from this place.
