English: A copy of an old portrait of the WIC ship "Nieu Nederlandt" (original name). "New Netherland" is the Anglicized name. The ship was commissioned by the WIC Chamber of Amsterdam in the Dutch Republic. It was built at a shipyard in Amsterdam. sailed on or after March 30, 1624 from Amsterdam (Holland) to New Netherland. The captain was Cornelius Jacobsen May (1580-1624). An older ship portrait is from the history of New York in the November 1891 issue of The Cosmopolitan Magazine.
