Patricia Carpenter, wife of retired Cmdr. Scott Carpenter, receives an American flag during his funeral for his military service Nov. 2, 2013, at St. John Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colo. Carpenter was the first human ever to hold the title of astronaut and aquanaut. He was the fourth American astronaut to fly in space and the second to orbit the Earth.
