- A Scheitholt
The Scheitholt is a musical instrument of German origin. It can be plucked, strummed or played with a bow. The Appalachian Dulcimer evolved from the Scheitholt.
The John William Beasley family of Pilot Mountain purchased this particular instrument in the 1930s. The Beasley family once owned the land that includes Pilot Mountain. They sold the land to the State of North Carolina in 1968, with an agreement that it would always be maintained in a natural state. Mr. Beasley's wife, Pearl Belle, was a nature lover and was known for her musical talent. It was said she could play every instrument that was handed to her.
