Alfred Worrell was born on 6 June 1892.
He was a plumber on leaving school but in August 1914 became a policeman. He left the police service in order to join the Army. He signed up on 11 Nov. 1915 aged 23 and served in the Royal Engineers 404 (H) Field Company, 42nd East Lancashire Division as a sapper (2957). He was discharged on 2 Feb 1919 and married Dora Robinson on 24 Feb. 1919. Following the war he returned to the police force. His certificate of employment during the war however stated that he was a plumber. He died 4 Aug. 1957. |
