Grave of film actress and dancer Rita Hayworth at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California (grotto, lot 196, grave 6). Hayworth was born Margarita Carmen Cansino on October 17, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York, and changed her name to Rita Hayworth in 1936 ("Rita" as an abbreviation of her first name, combined with her mother's maiden name, Hayworth). She attained fame during the 1940s as one of the era's top stars. She appeared in 61 films over 37 years, is listed as one of the American Film Institute's Greatest Stars of All Time, and received the National Screen Heritage Award in 1977. She died of Alzheimer's disease on May 14, 1987 in Manhattan, New York at age 68.
