Summary
Description Return of Boulton, Watt & Murdoch to Centenary Square (52040366649).jpg |
Return of Boulton, Watt & Murdoch to Centenary Square. The Golden Boys were in storage from August 2017 until April 2022.
The House of Sport (ex Birmingham Register Office) was demolished during 2015-16 (for One Arena Central, which hasn't been built yet). But the statue and plinth removed to storage at the end of August 2017, ahead of the building of the Westside Metro extension to Centenary Square (2017-19). While the Centenary Square revamp opened in the summer of 2019, Symphony Hall then had a foyer refurb (2019-21). So the statue has only returned in 2022, ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Council is supposed to be preparing a plaque about the members slavery links, but the wording hasn't been finalised yet. |
