The National Science Board, the policy making body for NSF, hosted a luncheon briefing on Capitol Hill on January 18, 2012, to mark the release of Science and Engineering (S&E) Indicators 2012 with a discussion of how U.S. science and technology compare to other parts of the world. Indicators is published biennially and presents comprehensive data on the state of the science and technology enterprise in the United States and internationally. Speaking at the briefing were: NSB Chairman Ray M. Bowen, NSF Director Subra Suresh, special guest Rep. Rush Holt, a Democrat from New Jersey and member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, Dr. José-Marie Griffiths, NSB S&E Indicators Committee Chairman, Rolf Lehming, the director of the S&E Indicators program in NSF's National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES), and Jeri Mulrow, a program director in NCSES. NSF Deputy Director Cora Marrett was a VIP guest. Following the remarks, the panelists took questions from audience members, including Mary Woolley, President and CEO of Research!America.
