Description

Diagram of Mk II explosive and Mk I tracer rounds for British QF 1 pounder "pom-pom" gun .
Total round length approximately 168mm, cartridge case lengh 94mm, shell + fuze length 94mm.
Shell is made of cast iron. Weight is 1 lb. Calibre = 37 mm.
Propellant charge 1 oz 3 ¼ drams Cordite Mk I, size 3 ¾.
Mk III explosive and Mk II tracer rounds were similar, except that propellant was specified as 520 grains Cordite Mk I size 2 ¼ for Mk III explosive round, and 520 grains Cordite M.D. size 4 ¼ for Mk II tracer. 520 grains = 1 oz 3 drams.
The shell had both a normal driving band near the base, and an additional narrow centering band closer to the nose.
Bursting charge 270 grains F.G. powder.
