English: Procession of the Palms [Hoschana Rabah] among Portuguese Jews. Depicts the observance of Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles, in a procession around the platform (bimah) in the Portuguese Synagogue in Amsterdam of men covered with the prayer shawl and holding the palms. Copper engraving, ink on laid paper, H. 35.2 - W. 22.3 / Each engraving: H. 15 - W. 20.5 cm. Plate (top) from Vol I 'Ceremonies of Jews and Catholic Christians' from the 11-volume work "The Ceremonies and Religious Customs of the World," Amsterdam: JF [Jean-Frédéric] Bernard, 1723-1743.
