The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument aboard the NOAA/NASA Suomi NPP satellite captured this image of post tropical cyclone Ophelia as it struck Ireland on October 16, 2017. As reported by various news outlets, so far three people have been killed by the storm and thousands of homes and businesses in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland remain without power. Dumfries and Galloway took the brunt of winds which reached up to 77 mph (123 km/h).
