English: A detail from Marco Ricci 's 1709 painting "Rehearsal for an Opera". Ricci was a stage painter at the Queen's Theatre, Haymarket. The singer depicted is believed to be the theatre's leading alto castrato, Nicolo Grimaldi , known as "Nicolini". At least two copies of the painting have been made and sold (see provenance document).
