Summary
Description Myddelton Square, Islington-geograph-2823209-by-Stephen-McKay.jpg |
English:
Myddelton Square, Islington. Myddelton Square was laid out between 1824 and 1827 and named after Sir Hugh Myddelton, who built the New River in the early 17th century. All is not quite what it seems however; several of the houses on the north side of the square - broadly those in the left half of this picture - were destroyed by enemy action in the Second World War. What we see now are replicas built in 1948, although it is anything but obvious were it not for a small plaque explaining the fate of nos 43-53.
