Summary
Description Move It - Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum - Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX (8619275013).jpg |
English:
A collection of old vehicles on Level 0 of Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum. The area called "Move It"
These were most likely in display at one time or another in the old Science Museum on Newhall Street (until 1997). When not on display, some of them had been stored at the Museum Collections Centre on Dollman Street in Nechells. This plane from World War 2 is the Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX. It was one of 11,000 built by Vickers Armstrong in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham. The hunt is currently one for buried Spitfire's in Burma. So far they haven't found the parts. There may also be some buried near the factory in Castle Bromwich.
