Summary: This Bronze age winepress is located on the north hillsides of Migdal Haemek, Israel. The top side of the wine press with steep rectangular floor is where the grapes were arranged. The workers squashed the grapes with their feet, and the juice would flow down to the lower side, through an outlet hole and into a collecting basin. As a filter, these holes were filled with a collection of thorns or brushes. On both sides of this pit there are 2 vertical holes, where poles were laid into the hole, and held by the workers during the pressing over the grapes. In one of the 8 presses found in this site there were 8 holes on the sides, used to hold poles for providing shadow for the comfort of the workers.
