Description Louis XIII dli 1006600134 cor.jpg |
English:
Ingres' "The Vow of Louis XIII" was commissioned in 1820 by France's Ministry of the Interior for the Notre-Dame cathedral in Montauban. Calamatta saw "The Vow" while traveling through Florence on his way to Paris and this particular print was likely pulled between 1886 (when the plate was first inventoried) and 1910.
