Hamlet and bridge of La Fière (on the left) and the marshes of the Merderet river flooded like they would be in early June 1944. The bridge was the DDay objective of the 1st bataillon, 505th PIR, 82nd Airborne division. The place saw heavy fighting between US paratroopers and the Germans army.
