Invitation to Sanpete, 1849

Description |
English:
This monument is of a Native American and a pioneer couple, originally dedicated in 1997, and was moved to its current location in 2012. The
Manti Utah Temple
of the
LDS Church
is in background. We have no proof of who these figures are. Assuming the purpose of the statue is to call attention to when Chief Wakara (Walker) met with
Brigham Young
and requested assistance in teaching his people, who were hungry subsistence farmers, to farm the land. Brigham Young agreed and sent a party of 225+ people lead by Issac Morley to settle the
Sanpete Valley
in November 1849.
