Summary
Description Hollands Pie Vans - geograph.org.uk - 431087.jpg |
English:
Hollands Pie Vans Baxenden is the Home of Holland's Pies. Walter Holland and Sons pies and puddings date back to the middle of the last century.
The company was founded by John Whitaker in 1851 as a confectioners shop in Haslingden, Lancashire. Walter himself bought the family business in 1890 and moved to a much larger bakery in 1907, from where pies were delivered locally by horse and cart. The first of Hollands famous brightly painted vans appeared in 1927 and by 1938 there were 20 vans making regular deliveries around the North West. Today their large fleet of vans are seen all over the North West of England when not parked up in the factory yard above. For more information about Hollands click http://www.hollandspies.co.uk/ . |
