Description Great Northern Railway - 192 diesel locomotive (General Motors Electro-Motive Division NW5) 1 (22105888878).jpg |
This is a working NW5 diesel locomotive at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Minnesota, USA. This switcher was built in December 1946 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division for the Great Northern Railway. After retiring from Great Northern service, it was used by a succession of other railroad companies: Burlington Northern Railroad, Colorado & Eastern Railroad, Kyle Railroad, and Iowa Southern Railroad. It was acquired by the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in the 1990s and restored to its original condition. This engine currently runs excursions along the North Shore Scenic Railroad from Duluth to Two Harbors, Minnesota.
