Summary
Description Gadaladeniya Temple 0525.jpg |
English:
Gadaladeniya is a Buddhist temple built in the South Indian style (that is, a gedige). The temple is dated by inscription to 1344, although its interior sculptures date to the Kandyan period. Gadaladeniya is located just a few miles west of Kandy, close to Lankatilake and Embekke (all three temples date to the 14th century, with Kandyan-period renovations). Gadaladeniya is currently (2008) under restoration, as will be obvious from the photograph here. Its name can also be spelled "Galadeniya."
