Christian IX (left) stands next to his son and successor, Crown Prince Frederik (VIII, centre), and his son Prince Christian (X). The old monarch holds Prince Christian's first-born son, Prince Frederik (IX), who is the King's great-grandson. The picture was taken by royal court photographer Carl Sonne at Prince Frederik's christening in 1899 and was widely used in contemporary times as a postcard motif, etc.
