Summary
Description Evelina Mansions SE5 - geograph.org.uk - 165920.jpg |
English:
Evelina Mansions SE5. This is on New Church Road. Built on the site of a village duck pond and completed in 1900. The first tenants were moved into 96 flats, these were one and two bedroom, without a bathroom and a coal fire for heating. The Indutrial Dwellings Society took over the following company in 1952. IDS is on line and its offices are in Stamford Hill Nth London. The caption on the plaque reads "Four Per Cent Industrial Dwellings Company Ltd" which presumably indicated an interest rate, and the intended client group.
