Summary

Description A U.S. Air Force Douglas SC-54D Skymaster search and rescue plane in flight. In 1953, the USAF Air Rescue Service adopted the SC-54D, a modified C-54, which could carry four MA-1 droppable rescue kits. Each kit contained a 40-person inflatable life raft that could be dropped more safely than the rigid boats used by the SC-17 and SC-29. 28 C-54s were modified by Convair.
