Depiction of the capture of Delfzijl by
Maurice of Nassau
, 1 July 1591. The assault, that can be seen on this print, never took place. Instead the city surrenderd to Maurice without a fight. This print originates from the workshop of
Frans Hogenberg
and was subsequently adapted for publication in Willem Baudartius’s
Polemographia Auraico Belgica
(Amsterdam, 1622).
