Summary
Description Crljenak kastelanski.jpg |
English:
This is a vine of Crljenak Kaštelanski in the vineyard of Ivica Radunić, where it was discovered. The small metal tag from the
University of Zagreb
indicates that this vine is reserved for genetic research. This particular vine is 40 years old, among the oldest still in existence.
Author: A. Matulić . Author's POV notesI took this picture during a visit to this vineyard in Kaštel Novi during a vacation with my family in June 2006. Mr. Radunić graciously showed us around and gave me some literature about the research conducted jointly by UC Davis and University of Zagreb , and which I summarized in the English Zinfandel article. He is now growing a few vines of California Zinfandel in his vinyeard to see how it compares to Crljenak Kaštelanski when grown from the same location. Nearly everybody in Croatia seems to grow grapes on trellises over carports and yards for shade, and they produce wine from this. Mr. Radunić himself isn't a commercial grower or winemaker, although with a 5-acre vineyard he grows more grapes than most folks. He produces wine privately and sells some to other residents in town. He grows several varietals which he blends. I have tasted his wine and found it quite good. His wine has recently won awards in local competitions. Amatulic 18:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC) |
