Col. Sylvester Bonnaffon, Jr. (1844-1922), a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, served as the commanding officer of the 20th Regiment (emergency) of the Pennsylvania National Guard during the Pittsburgh railroad strike of 1877. In 1893, he was awarded the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor "for distinguished gallantry at the Battle of Boydton Plank Road, Virginia, October 27, 1864" during the American Civil War.
