Chief_John_T._Lynch,_Holyoke_Fire_Dept,_hero_fireman_as_Lt_in_Precious_Blood_Church_fire.jpg

Summary

Description
English: Chief John T. Lynch of Holyoke, Massachusetts , whose name was forever tied to his efforts in saving parishioners during the Precious Blood Church fire , being the first to respond, and with then-Chief Engineer Mullin, pulled bodies from a mass that had been trampled and crammed into the stairs at the front door. Lynch was doused by the first hose as he tried to save as many, often burning-alive, victims of the fire; a contemporary account in the Quincy Daily Whig estimated his actions saved the lives of at least a dozen people.
