PFC Charles H. Roan was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity" while serving with the Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, First Marine Division in action against the Japanese on Peleliu, Palau Islands, 18 September 1944.
