Scanned from an antique engraving, 7-1/2 x 6 inches. Engraved by Charles Knight Drawn by Gardner after Sir Peter Lely. Published by Cadel l & Davis 1807 Arabella Fermor was the daughter of Henry Fermor Esq. of Tusmore in Oxfordshire. The fame of her beauty and her charms was celebrated both by poets and painters, for she was the belle of London society in the early years of the 18th century. Alexander Pope wrote his poem, The Rape of the Lock , about a scandalous incident between her and Lord Petre, much to Arabella’s dismay. |
