A photograph of the front of the judgeship appointment of Thomas Jefferson Boynton, dated 20 January 1864, signed by William Seward (Secretary of State) and Abraham Lincoln. The oath for the office is written out longhand on the back of the appointment document and signed by Thomas Jefferson Boynton. The envelope that contained the document also still exists.
