Notes | Possibly a decoration of a triumphal gate. Personifications of Polish lands are paying tribute to supported by Mars and Minerva and trampling Polish enemies, King Charles X Gustavus of Sweden. Previously identified as a allegorical portrait of John II Casimir Vasa after the Battle of Berestechko. Charles X Gustav quite fast obtained the reputation of the "brigand of Europe" ( rozbójnik Europy ), as he was called by his adversary, Stefan Czarniecki, "who was capable of beginning horrors of war in any part of the old continent". | |||||||||||||||||||||||
