Summary
Description Ani church of St Gregory of Tigran Honents 34 South side view arcade 5548.jpg |
English:
One of a series of pictures with details of the arcade, that runs around most of the building, in the higher reaches of the several side. This is a second series, where I tried to get the colour of the stone more in accordance with how it looked then. That is: after restoration, and in an other season.
I was informed that an interlace pattern is part of medieval supersititons. The interlace was believed to trap the evil. Therefore, the interlace is a kind of weapon that protects the church from evil.

In the name of a file I indicate roughly what is shown. The category I put them in is used a lot, but I think that, as even in Ani there are several churches for the saint, using the name of the founder (Tigran) is more correct.
One of two series, taken with a 4 years interval. The first series shows how the church was overgrown with grasses, a lot was restored at the second visit. The season also was different, which is reflected in the colours. In several pictures the colour of the stone was recreated (somewhat) using colour correction, itis reddish, but very hard to capture correctly.
