Description |
English:
An English sixth rate at anchor
A port quarter view of a sixth rate, possibly the ‘Saudadoes’ lying at anchor in a light air. Her fore course loosed in the brails and her spritsail and spritsail topsail loosed. Two sprit-rigged wherries alongside. A high coastline in the distance. Possibly part of a drawing made during the voyage of the Prince of Orange and Princes Mary of Holland in 1677.
This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder.
