Briggs was ridden in the battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War on 25 October, 1854, specifically in the famous "Charge of the Light Brigade". He was so beloved by his owner, Charles Morgan, Baron Tredegar, that he 'knighted' the horse and was subsequently known as "Sir Briggs"
