Quick Facts Did you know?, Introduction and rules ...

Arbitrary section header

I reverted the removal of VERY useful template shortcuts: ... while it is true that normally templates don't have or need shortcuts, this is a special case, being able to get to these two destinations (the template and its talk) are hugely useful time savers. This is no ordinary template, and the talk is a very high traffic page used by many. Please discuss changes here if you disagree. ++Lar: t/c 02:44, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Protect?

I wasn't aware this template, itself, was used on the main page. Have people been messing with the noinclude tags? ++Lar: t/c 04:18, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

WPT:DYK

The shortcut WPT:DYK provided in the DYKbox template has been deprecated. WT:DYK is to be used instead. I went to the template talk page to change the shortcut, but found the page locked. Would someone with access to the DYKbox tempate please make this change for me. Thanks. -- Jreferee 15:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Category

As this page is protected, please add it to the category, Category:Wikipedia Did you know. Thank you for your time. Smee 06:24, 22 May 2007 (UTC).

The "DYK Suggestions" links to T:DYK; can an administrator change it so it is piped to the "Suggestions" subsection? Thanks. Skomorokh incite 14:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Crossname redirects

Is it ok if I do the followings changes?

 • T:DYK -> T:DYK
 • T:TDYK -> T:TDYK
 • T:DYK/N -> T:DYK/N

This will minimize problems by crossnaming as those reported in Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs. -- Magioladitis (talk) 20:33, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Category

Please add <noinclude>Documentation</noinclude> to the page or just add <noinclude></noinclude> to the bottom of the template. -- Suntag 20:46, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Done. I went ahead and added the Documentation template. --Elonka 23:04, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Order

This is in the wrong order in my opinion. It should go as follows:

 1. Main
 2. Rules (because we should all read the rules first!)
 3. Suggestions (suggestions are what keeps it running)
 4. Next update (related to above, except it covers the hooks about to go live)
 5. Archive (WP:DYKA) (details of every hook ever featured)
 6. Discussion (WT:DYK) (discussion of the whole process)

I'm wary of even including the following two:

 1. List (WP:DYKLIST) (essentially a page of who got the most DYKs. Numbers don't mean a lot to me.)
 2. Best (WP:DYKBEST) (I personally dispute this page's title, should be more along the lines of "Most viewed".)

Neither of them are a daily part of the DYK process so don't really need to be on the template. How do you turn this on (talk) 23:43, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I made the requested changes , but I think we can keep the other 2 links included. Cirt (talk) 23:56, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
On the "Best" part, I inserted it as an experiment. It's a new feature, and my suggestion would be to give it a month to see how popular (how many page views the page view page gets?) it is. If DYK regulars conclude it's not useful, then we can dump it, but I vote to give it a chance.Cbl62 (talk) 16:35, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Nod. Leave it for a month and let's see then. ++Lar: t/c 21:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Background color

A change to the template background color might be nice. We could match it to the green color scheme used on the main page, using f5fffa for the light green and cef2e0 for the darker green color. -- Suntag 13:02, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Missing section

This is missing from the template. --➨♀♂Candlewicke ST # :) 19:55, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Rules

The rules link just links to the top of the page, not to Wikipedia:Did_you_know#DYK_rules. Dotty••| 15:51, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Those are the rules for nominations. Further down are rules for the preparation page, and beyond (without mentioning WP:DYKADMINBOT), although some subsections such as Selecting nominated hooks are in the wrong section. (I'm biased; I tried to fix it but the consensus went against me.) Art LaPella (talk) 20:29, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I propose we add a line saying "Contributors (WP:DYKLIST)" to the bottom of the template. Binksternet (talk) 18:11, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

>Sound of knocking< Hello! Let's put one more link in the box. Binksternet (talk) 00:18, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I have no objection. As there's been no response for almost nine months, I'd suggest just adding it. —Bruce1eetalk 06:09, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
This is not a very busy talkpage, I'm afraid. However, I'd prefer not to add that link; I don't think that list is very important to DYK and the navigation box should be limited to the most important links. Ucucha 12:20, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Add prepextra to DYKbox

I would like to add PrepExtra to "Prep areas" as follows:

It would make the box a little wider, but I don't see that being a problem. Does anyone have any objections? —Bruce1eetalk 06:05, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

I've been bold and done it. Ucucha 12:34, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. —Bruce1eetalk 12:35, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Please convert to sidebar. I made an initial try at it but it was reverted. Feel free to discuss but it is a navigational sidebar and not an infobox or other tabular data. 50.53.15.51 (talk) 02:20, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the edit semi-protected template. The revert comment says consensus is needed for the proposed change. RudolfRed (talk) 20:14, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Please replace the line

| label1 = Currently on Main Page

with

| label1 = Currently on Main Page

so that "Currently on Main Page" doesn't linewrap when in bold. 213.246.89.79 (talk) 06:13, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Web statistics tool

What about it doesn't work? It worked in my tests before it was reverted in this edit.  Jeff G. ツ (talk) 15:46, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Yeah I did not realize how you intended it to be used. Yes, it works, but in my opinion placing it in DYK tools (which I did) would be more convenient and relevant. sst 17:14, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
You were reverted. Please contribute to Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Stats on the DYK Toolbox. Thank you.  Jeff G. ツ (talk) 19:48, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
