DYKUpdateBot is an automated process designed to automatically update the main {{Did you know}} template on the main page.

This former Wikipedia guideline, no longer backed by community consensus, is retained for historical reference. This page explains how the DYK process worked prior to the use of DKYUpdateBot. It was last substantively updated 2016.

The adminbot looks for hooks on one of the queue pages. To copy the hooks onto the queue page follow these instructions:

1. Stock one of the preparation areas with hooks. Do not prepare the hooks in the queues as this disadvantages non-administrators who want to help out.
2. Open the next queue (Purge this page to ensure the link is correct) and replace the page with the entire contents from the preparation area you filled earlier.
3. Add {{DYKbotdo|~~~}} to the top of the page and save the page.
4. The page should now be ready to go. At the appropriate time the bot will update the template.
5. After copying the update to the bot page, clear the preparation area page so that users can start working on the following update.
