Avani Salvi (Anvita Phaltankar), who is also known as Sweetu, is a loving, but poor and overweight girl and a complete foodie, whereas, Omkar Khanvilkar (Shalva Kinjawadekar) is a rich, health-conscious youth who likes to workout and has been raised in a family that values health and fitness. Ambernath-based Sweetu lives in a chawl in a joint family with her mother, Nalini (Deepti Samel Ketkar), who is also known as Nalu; her father, Vasant (Uday Salvi); her uncle, Sharad (Umesh Bane); her aunt, Suman (Shubhangi Bhujbal); and her cousin, Chinmay (Arnav Raje), who is also known as Chinya. On the other hand, Mumbai-based Omkar lives in the palatial residence of the Khanvilkar family with his mother, Shakuntala (Shubhangi Gokhale / Kishori Ambiye), who is also known as Shaku; his father, Mr. Khanvilkar (Milind Joshi); his older sister, Malvika (Aditi Sarangdhar); and Malvika's live-in partner, Rocky (Triyug Mantri). Nalu and Shaku, who both were childhood friends, suddenly reunite with each other and reminisce about their childhood days. As Sweetu gets hired for a job in Mumbai, Nalu requests Shaku to accommodate Sweetu in her house to reduce the time needed to reach her new workplace. During her stay at the Khanvilkar residence, Sweetu develops a sweet-and-sour relationship with Omkar, and the understanding Shaku helps Sweetu in her endeavours to lose weight by providing the right kind of encouragement. However, Malvika disapproves of Sweetu and Omkar's relationship due to the fact that she despises Sweetu and Nalu due to their poor financial status.
