Wikipedia:WikiProject Murder Madness and Mayhem

The University of British Columbia's class SPAN312 ("Murder, Madness, and Mayhem: Latin American Literature in Translation") contributed to Wikipedia during Spring 2008. Our collective goals were to bring a selection of articles on Latin American literature to featured article status (or as near as possible). By project's end, we had contributed three featured articles and eight good articles. None of these articles was a good article at the outset; two did not even exist.

The grand-daddy of them all... Facundo Quiroga

We had the unstinting support of the (in)famous FA-Team, who took this on as their first mission. We were also fortunate to have the support of members of Wikiproject Novels. The collaboration of other interested Wikipedia editors was of course very much appreciated. We would like to thank everyone for their hard work and incredible generosity.

Feel free to discuss this project. With the FA-Team, we are also now embarking on an analysis and post-mortem. You may also want to look at the following essay:

Article traffic

Article traffic statistics demonstrate the size of the public for our work. These are the figures for March, 2008:

Some of these page views will be from group members working on the articles.[16] But not all. Especially for the more popular pages! So there are people out there reading our work.

An original barnstar, in addition to Awadewit's Motivation Award, because the Murder Madness and Mayhem project deserves more than one rusty symbol of its worth--ragesoss (talk) 02:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

For User:Jbmurray/Madness, Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-04-14/2000th FA, and their comments on the process. Thanks for being able to take the rough with the smooth, overcome, exceed, and then talk about it. Let's hope we can improve in response. GRuban (talk) 13:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Notes

  1. Comment on the Citizendium Blog
  2. Total figure includes Mario Vargos Llosa.
  3. Total figure includes Miguel Angel Asturias.
  4. Indeed, there was a marked bump for March compared to February. In part this is also because we have been drawing attention to these pages, which is not a bad thing.
  5. So I've eliminated quotation marks or accents: Gabriel Garcia Marquez rather than "Gabriel García Márquez", for example.

In chronological order, from earliest to latest. Not all the outlets for the AFP story are listedthey got rather repetitious after a whilebut I tried to keep note of the countries and languages in which it appeared.
