Stanley Palmer Richard (born October 21, 1967), [1] nicknamed "the Sheriff", is an American former professional football player who was a safety for eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins. He played college football for the Texas Longhorns, earning first-team All-American honors in 1990. In the NFL, he was the starting strong safety for the Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX.
