Soumitrisha Kundu (born 24 February 2000),[2] also known by the initialism STK,[1] is an Indian actress who works in Bengali film and television industry. She made her acting debut in the drama series E Amar Gurudakshina (2017) and became well known for portraying the female lead Mithai and her lookalike Mithi in Mithai (2021).[3][4][5] After being a popular artist in the television industry for five years, she made her film debut with Avijit Sen's Pradhan (2023) portraying the female lead Rumi Pradhan opposite Dev. The film became one of the major successes of the year while Kundu's performance, screen presence and chemistry with her co-stars were well-received. She subsequently received her first Filmfare Awards Bangla nomination for Best Female Debut for the film.[6][7] Noted for her acting and looks in the media, she is widely regarded as one of the most popular and promising young actresses in Tollywood.[8][9][10]

Early life and education

Kundu is from Barasat, West Bengal. She was born to Goutam Kundu and Mousumi Kundu in a Bengali Hindu Aguri family. She passed her higher secondary examination from Barasat Girls High School. She came to Kolkata to learn dancing and started modeling in the meanwhile. She took admission in St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College in Kolkata but soon dropped out to concentrate on her acting career. Later she did her graduation in English literature from Indira Gandhi National Open University.[9][10]

Career

Kundu started her career with the television series E Amar Gurudakshina in 2017.[11] She has also featured in a number of shows like Jai Kali Kalkattawali, Aloukik Na Loukik and Gopal Bhar. She got her breakthrough as a lead in Kone Bou in 2019. In January, 2021 she was cast and had started portraying the dual characters Mithai/Mithi in Mithai which wrapped up in June 2023.[12][13] Kundu made her film debut with Avijit Sen's Pradhan opposite Dev in 2023.[14] Released on the occasion of Christmas vacations, the film became a major critical and commercial success. Kundu portrayed the female lead Rumi Pradhan and received praise for her performance, screen presence and chemistry with her co-stars. She was further nominated for the Filmfare Awards Bangla in the Best Female Debut category for the film.[6][7] Kundu is next slated to star as the leading lady in Rupak Chakraborty's film 10e June opposite Sourav Das.[15]

Kundu is an only child. She shares a close relationship with her family and has credited her parents for giving her confidence and encouraging her professionally.[16] She has named Sridevi as her acting inspiration.[17] Kundu is single. She has mentioned sketching, singing and dancing as her occasional habits.[16] Kundu is one of the most followed Tollywood actresses on social platforms. She is noted to be quite active on her social profiles and regularly interacts with her fans and followers.[18] She is a Lord Krishna devotee and visited Vrindavan to mark her 23rd birthday.[19] Regarded as one of the most popular and successful young artists in the media, her looks, personality, fashion and artistry have received considerable public attention.[20][21]
