Somali Inside News is an independent news website, based in Somalia, dedicated to covering Somalia,[1] African,[2] and international news[3] in both Somali and English. It was founded in 2010 by young Somalis living in the homeland.[4]

Creation

Somali Inside News was established in 2010 by Somali youth.[5] This website publishes reports and analyses of local and international news in both Somali[1] and English,[6] with an emphasis on Somali affairs.[7] SIN was taken off the air in 2019 after facing many challenges that caused it to be absent for a period of almost 5 years.[8] Finally, it was able to return to the air at the beginning of this year, 2024, having already started its activities for the community.[9]

Audience

In 2011, SIN was one of the most popular websites in Somalia and was an elite news source there,[10] "accessed online every morning by ministers and officials," according to a BBC analysis.[11] The website hosts external links to the popular daily radio services for BBC Somali and VOA Somali.[12] The website also hosts job advertisements for international bodies, government agencies and NGOs.[13]
