Preeti Amin Pereira (born 29 December 1967) is an Indian actress who mainly works in Hindi television. She is best known for her portrayal of Jiya Sabharwal in Jhoome Jiiya Re, Dr. Jiya Modi in Dill Mill Gayye, Surili in Lapataganj, Akshara Goenka Sharma in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Sravanthi in Chakravakam.[1]

Early life and education

Preeti Amin was born in Hyderabad on 29 December 1967. She did her schooling in St Andrews High School, Hyderabad and she did her graduation in Kasturba Gandhi College for Women, Secunderabad, Telangana, and St. Francis College for Women, Hyderabad. Before acting in television, Amin taught free style dancing and did theatre and ad modelling.

Career

Amin started her acting career with Telugu shows, Chakravakam, Aloukika and Nanna. She then participated in India's Best Cinestars Ki Khoj in 2004.[2]

Amin made her debut in Hindi television with Jhoome Jiiya Re, playing Jiya Sabharwal from 2007 to 2008. She went onto appear in shows like Kasamh Se, Dill Mill Gayye, Bhaskar Bharti, CID and Aahat's crossover episode, Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein and Dil Ki Nazar Se Khoobsurat.[3]

Amin is widely known for playing Surili in Lapataganj from 2009 to 2012.[4] She then participated in Comedy Circus Ke Taansen. Amin also judged Zee TV Rajasthan's show Nach Le Bindani, the Rajasthani version of Dance India Dance Super Moms.[5]

After a hiatus of eight years, Amin made her comeback with Durga Aur Charu and then appeared in Katha Ankahee. Since November 2023, she is seen playing Advocate Akshara Sharma in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.[6]

Personal life

Preeti Amin married Lionel Pereira, an American psychiatrist, in 2014. She is currently living in Mumbai.[7]
